About Highland Exploration and our tours in the beautiful Rannoch area

The Rannoch area of the Scottish Highlands is famous for its picturesque landscapes, tranquil loch and abundance of wildlife. It also boasts a rich history – a few centuries ago, there were seven Scottish clans dominating the area, as can be seen in the Rannoch Clan Trail.

There’s also the uniquely situated Rannoch Station, which sits at the edge of the atmospheric Rannoch Moor yet can be reached by train from Glasgow or London.

Now, for the first time, you can experience all the sights, sounds and stories that this majestic landscape has to offer, with Highland Exploration.

Who are Highland Exploration and what do we offer visitors?

Highland Exploration are professional, experienced and friendly tour guides based in the pretty village of Kinloch Rannoch, Perthshire. Our mission is to introduce our visitors to the breathtakingly beautiful landscapes of Loch Rannoch and beyond. At the same time, we’ll tell you the fascinating stories of the clans, Jacobite soldiers, crofters and mystical legends that once populated the area.

Our Explorations:

Land Rover Day & Evening Explorations – around the loch road, exploring the Clan Trail and up to remote Rannoch Station; experience the lovely soft evening light, maybe even a sunset and watch the animals coming to the loch, then see Rannoch Moor and do a bit of off-roading. Daytime Land Rover Explorations are also possible - call us on 07795 245748 to arrange this;
Private Charters –  where you tell us where you’d like to go, and we supply the vehicles, the guide(s), the knowledge and the picnic.

We can also offer visitors private or group guided walks tailored for all ages and abilities.

Please get in touch for large group booking enquiries, we welcome school groups, stag & hen parties and private functions. info@highlandexploration.com

We believe in giving back to an area, not taking from it

We firmly believe that any tours should integrate into the environment as much as possible, not upset the local landscape or wildlife. Therefore we ensure that nature is respected.

Our community is important to us, too – we want the local economy to benefit from what we do, and for school kids to learn more about their local environment.

Most important of all is you, our customers. We couldn’t do what we do without you, and we aim to give you the best service and experience possible. We welcome all feedback comments and suggestions.

Meet the Highland Exploration team

Duncan Richardson grew up on the island of Jura on the west coast of Scotland, and has lived in Kinloch Rannoch for many years. He has worked as a deerstalker, on creel boats, and in the military. He has an enviable knowledge of the wildlife, geography and history of the Rannoch area – and he has some great stories to tell as he guides you round the area by Land Rover.

Ruth Fenwick currently lives in Kinloch Rannoch, and has worked as an estate manager, in the hotel & leisure business and for the MOD. She’s a creative type, and a real foodie who enjoys cooking. She creates wonderful picnics for our Private Charter tours.

Duncan and Ruth look forward to welcoming you to the Rannoch area for a fantastic Highland Exploration tour.
